The 04 14 2012 Jersey Fist Pump Wedding

Saturday, April 14, 2012
Wedding Ceremony & Reception
The Founders Inn and Spa, Virginia Beach, Virginia

"My husband and I have a very broad taste in music that most DJs may not relate to. After meeting and speaking with DJ Seko and sensing how professional he was, and how open he was to our taste in music, it made us feel at ease that we would have a great time. He definitely did not disappoint in the least. Family and friends are still buzzing about how good he was, and how he was able to get everyone involved in a way unlike any traditional DJ they have ever heard. My husband and I could not be more pleased with the music selection . DJ Seko had everyone in the party from young to old dancing from the beginning to the end. DJ Seko = Good times, great music, and fun had by all!" - Melanie Azemar-Woodson

Click here to read Melanie's event feedback form !
This Destination Wedding event was classic from beginning to end ! The entire group traveled from New Jersey pumping their fists (including the photographers).

Positive Vibes provided the ceremony sound system for the ceremony. This system provides a microphone that picks up everything from Bride-Groom-Officiator and provides additional microphones if other participants need reinforcement. This also provides prelude music 30 minutes prior to the ceremony, all the music needed for the ceremony, and for up to 30 minutes following the ceremony. Pastor Ron McLean, both a Man of the cloth and a excellent financial planner (Seko jokingly introduced him as 'Pastor Paycheck') blessed the union with his wit, love, and compassion. DJ Seko (Seko Varner) then worked the reception adding his flair and creativity. Guests begin as spectators, and end as participants in the reception. The event was magical !

Mel was a knock-out reportedly from the time Seko met her. Seko says that he saw what Corey saw in her in the first 10 minutes. They both hailed from New Jersey and had a truly global appreciation for music. In example: at the ceremony Corey entered the ceremony on "I Do" performed by Boyz II Men (Seko almost insists that all Grooms have their special entrance songs), our Bride Melanie entered the ceremony on "Spend My Life With You" performed by Eric Bemet and Tamia, and the recessional was Sanchez' Roots-Reggae version of "Nothing's Gonna' Change My Love for You." The parents were introduced during the reception over an edited version of "I'm Sexy and I Know it" performed by LMFAO. Later in the reception Seko did a (completely packed dance floor) mix of "The Perculator" by Cajmere with "Conga" performed by Miami Sound Machine. Ten minutes later the crowd was sweating to the sounds of
"Zouk la Se Sel Medikaman Nou Ni" performed by Kassaz just before Seko mixed in Elvis Crespo's Suavamente. The entire event was sparkled by the crowd Pumping their fists Jersey Style !    http://www.positivevibes.djintelligence.com/survey/results/

Coming to America - Carl & Donalda 03.24.2012

The Coming to American was a blast. Positive Vibes DJs provided sound and music for the ceremony, DJ & Emcee services for the reception with a light tree. The event was held in Woodbridge Virginia at The Harbour.

"I was at a wedding last year and experienced DJ Seko and just knew I had to have him at our wedding! He traveled from VA Beach to Northern Virginia and he did not disappoint. He did all of our sound for both our ceremony and reception and did so effortlessly. He kept the party going from beginning to end and He is all my guests talked to me about. We had a West African & African-American wedding and he was able to hang with all of our cultural requests as well as keeping the Americans happy. He met with us twice before the wedding and it was our absolute pleasure working with him." - (former Bride, New Wife) Donalda Harding-Jones

This was the "Coming to America" wedding ! Donalda was from Africa & Carl was American. Donalda was worried that merging the two cultural groups at her event might prove difficult.... It was difficult to not celebrate ! We all had a ball. Seko "DJ Seko" Varner & Walter "DJ Vibe" Varner worked the crowd into a frenzy. "This was mad cool." stated Seko as he reported on the event.. "At the end of the night Donalda's mother and auntie even asked "Are you sure your not from Africa ? You have an African name".  Seko made a special 1st dance mix for the couple begining with African drums making a crescendo, mixing into the audio from the Coming to America movie where a male sings "She's your Queennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn..." before Eddie Murphy's Bride to Be entered the room. As Donalda & Carl's guests clapped and laughed Donalda circled the dance floor doing a diva-walk that kinda' told Carl that he was going to have an exhausting honeymoon..... And also harkened that she was indeed his Queen. The sample from the movie then blended into the beginning of Etta James' performance of "At Last." The 1st dance also had some other surprises that made the event as hot as the Sahara !

Thank you Carl & Donalda for choosing Positive Vibes !

Love is the greatest measure - DJ Seko Varner

It's three months later and I still rested uneasy when this event popped into my mind. Tonight I realized what was bothering me. I may have been using the incorrect ruler.

In all honesty the event was beautiful and emotionally the event was touching. The bride was a knock out. Her dress simply amplified her beauty and the groom made the tuxedo look enchanting. The Evangelical Christian tone of the ceremony truly set the mood, and became the central focus for the event. The family of both the bride and groom lit the ballroom with smiles and tears-of-joy which were thrilling and humbling to observe. The guests were almost as captivating as the post-ceremony view of the couple at the top of the stairwell preparing to make their descent into the reception. The music for the ceremony was a lovely mix of a live pianist, a live singer, and Jazzy-Gospel music I played for the prelude's prelude. The microphone I set-up for the live singer worked perfectly, the microphone used to ensure that the Bride-Groom-Officiant trio were all easily heard worked without a flaw. The bride entered being serenaded by a great enthralling voice. The officiant began the ceremony with an interesting mini-sermon on salvation and had an altar call (Will you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior ?). I couldn't wait for the recessional as the groom choose a popular Earth, Wind, and Fire song to "Groove" (hint-hint) their way into the reception........... As a performer one learns that the audience is very much a part of the performance. This is one of the few events where I don't feel that I connected with the crowd in a way that enhanced every moment.

The upscale formal reception had a very casual, worshipful, and jovial feel. Singing and swinging along to great soulful music didn't seem to capture the ambiance of this celebration. The groom hinted to me "Do you think you could play some Gospel ? Maybe we should do all Gospel instead ?" I smiled knowing that I had just switched over to Gospel Jazz about 45 seconds before approaching the groom to "check-in". Shaking the groom's hand I replied "No problem my friend, I'll keep it just like this." It was a heart-warming sight to see the guests shower the couple with love. The guests were so comfortable with each other, embracing the religious overtone, and celebrating the newly bonded family that a throw-down party wasn't going to be icing on the cake. I hadn't received a complaint. I actually received a great deal of compliments. "You seem so professional. Can I have your card ?"..... "Thanks for playing the Gospel music. Most DJs don't carry Gospel."......."Hey Seko. It's good to see you at this event. I know everything is going to go right." The coordinator Tamara Hundley even told me "You're doing great. Everything is going great !" after I shared with her that I just didn't feel as connected as I wanted to be. Three months later I know that I actually felt disconnected because I realized that this event wasn't going to be the high energy 'laugh-sing-dance-cry-shout-party' that I've become known for...... I also realized that I measure the success of the event and my performance upon creating and maintaining those high energy 'laugh-sing-dance-cry-shout-parties'. As much as I planned to rock everyone's world, my world was the one that was rocked. This event was going to be remembered and memorialized on the merits of the glowing love and support of the guests.

We definitely had a ball during the "line dance party". We got our 'Wobble-Wobble' on, and even did the "Get Your Praise On Line Dance" along with other popular favorites. As I put on the last line dance, "The Electric Slide" I felt my heart grow heavy. I knew that that this was the end of the dancing. The remainder of the event was a square focus on hugs, kisses, photos with family friends, and spontaneous toasts. I'm thankful for the coordinator, Tamara, who reminded me that all events can't be judged on the event's party-level. Perhaps they should be judged on the event's Love-level. "There's a lot of LOVE in the air." noted Tamara........ She was right.......

Today it all made sense....... Three months later...... I'm not sure what clicked, but it clicked..
Love is the greatest measure. Today I have a new feeling. I feel honored that I was chosen to witness such a great love affair. I feel honored that the couple chose me to provide services for them. And I feel professionally and emotionally taller from the growth that three months of self-bashing and today's light of epiphany has provided......... Ashee & Amen !
Thanks Tam.
Congratulations C & J !

Daniel & Keely - Hampton U. wins again

Daniel was from Chi-Town, Keely was from the planet of drop-dead gorgeous women......"You a' badd girl and ya' friends badd too !" Salutes to Hampton University, my alma-mater, their alma-mater, and the site of their blossoming love.

Daniel is a member of tha' prettyboy Nupes of Kappa Alpha Psi..... But since he wanted all of his guests to have a ball at his reception, they hired a man of Omega Psi Phi as their DJ. "Don't you go round' barking at my event." warned the groom........So when I barked I didn't do it in a round.....Gotcha' !

Daniel wowed his wife (doesn't that sound good Daniel, "your wife") with a special surprise during the first dance, another one of Positive Vibes DJs specialties (We make special thangs' happen !). The smile on her face was priceless, and all of the women in the crowd were visibly touched and a chrous of "Aaaaahhss" spiraled into the heavens. The First dance was an extended first dance, a Positive Vibes DJ specialty which ends with all the couples in the room glowing with the shared love, experience, and romance of the couples dance.

We danced, line danced, party danced, and danced in our seats while the meal was served. Good music, good people, good times. The couple choose our top 'Reception-Only' package, full of extras that really made the event spectacular. "Absolutely, we had an awesome day............Take care! Thanks again for everything!" Daniel stated as he sent me the photos a few months after the gala. I smiled as I read the feedback form. Dan, you know how to flatter a DJ ! "All of the guests commented on how great the DJ was. Seko made our reception the party that we wanted. - Daniel Wilson." I felt honored just to be a part of thier day.
Thier room was expertly lit by Ampha Events and their coordinator, Tanya Frazier, knew just how to allow me to perform at my best and support the magic ! I love working with her and her team. I must also say that her whole crew is a crew of Eye-Candy. (I just won't admit that around my wife...). Daniel & Keely picked the right folk' to make thier day special.

Shouts to the Nupes' who made the day for the Nupe Groom.

May thier union become and remain to be a beacon of light in a murky world. May thier worst day be thier wedding day. May thier Joy continue to resonate in the lives of those who were blessed enough to witness the majesty of The Almighty, as refelected in our couple Daniel and Keely. Cheers !

DJ SEKO VARNER - Positive Vibes Inc.

Daniel and Keely choose our Extreme Package. They enjoyed a tailored mix of music, advanced level wedding party introductions, a grand storybook couple's introduction, an interactive tour of the tables, special guest surprises, our top-level interactions, a dance-floor-focused light show, a pre-toast love-story, and a Club-Party atmospehere. Shay & Steve

"DJ Seko was amazing....... Overall he received raving feedback from our guests and another wedding planner asked for his information." - Shay Walker-Youngblood

This event was built for fun ! Isha Foss Events was the event coordinator. Digital Dream Makers provided the videography & the photographers were the husband and wife team of Grant & Deb Photographers. We added a lil' downsouth flava' by adding a 'Second Line' into the introductions of the wedding party. We also had a ball during the dinner hour as we sang along to the mixture of Old-School & New-School Soul music favorites that we created just for this occasion. The guests began dancing during the dinner as Shay was belting out the tunes serenading her new husband. Steve just smiled and let his woman lead !

The event remained tailored and expertly handled. The 1st dance ended-up becoming an unexpected special mix ! As I chose "You are" performed by Charlie Wilson, their chosen 1st dance I must have slipped a space down. As I was introducing the 1st dance drawing attention to the bride & groom I thought to myslef "This must be the long version" as the begining notes didn't remind me of the song. 10 seconds as they are dancing I heard Kem's version of "You Are" as the crowd ohh'ed and ahh'ed at the beautifuk scene. Looking towards our coordinator Isha Foss I stated "It's the wrong tune, I'll fix it." Isha seemed surprised, "Look at that smile on her face, she's glowing ! Are you sure ?" replied Isha. Within seconds I beat-mixed Charlie Wilson's version in while I directed the crowd to loudly "Express your love towards the new husband and wife embraced and enjoying their first dance." As the crowd roared saluting the couple via voice and the ringing of glasses. Our beautiful Shay blushed as she heard the familar voice of Charlie Wilson. It's a wrap ! Even the first dance held a special touch that could never be re-created. As the first dance blended into an 'extended first', a Positive Vibes speciality one guest ran up to me shouting "How did you do that ? I love Kem and I LOVE CHARLIE WILSON ! Mixing their songs together was genius !!!! Can I get a copy of that mix ?" I smiled knowing that The Creator always has a Master Plan ! As I smiled at the married couples who were all dancing with our new couple I knew that "we plan, and they plan but the Almighty is the best of Planners !"

The remainder of the night was pure dancing and delight ! We celebrated all the Fathers with a special dance, celebrated all of the mothers with a special dance. Both dances began with the couple and ended with all we were celebrating dancing and singing along ! A special intro before the toast capped off sentimental words from guests that couldn't be stopped. Even after the coordinator removed the microphone from the guests lined up to love the couple the guests kept coming. It was very obvious the couple was loved by all involved. Shouts out to the crew from Mississippi who almost broke the dance floor with the second 'Second Line' of the night. With decorated Umbrellas and Purple sashes, the energy was crazy !!!! I can't wait to see the photos and video !

A hug from our couple at the nights end stated all that needed to be said. "Everything was excellent !" beamed Shay. This event was a subcontracted event for R2Z Entertainment, which is owned by a former Positive Vibes DJ, DJ HotRod ! Rod shared with me before providing the contract...."Shay does event planning and she's former Military. Everything has to be right just to everything to be o.k." As he called after the event he noted "Shay said you were Awesome ! I don't know what you did, but I'm glad you did it." Simply put, we had a blast. Here is a link to the feedback form:

Kristy & King Tee

This was a great event. Kristy family was a hypnotic blend of Greek-Americans, Greek, and Straight up soul-folk. Derwood (King Tee) had one the craziest families, full of side splitting fun. Our ceremony, (yea', I tend to take ownership in the events that I work) was superb. King Tee walked into to "Superman Lover" by Johnny Guitar Watson, Kristy graced the deck of the Lesner Inn escorted by her dear daddy while a special Positive Vibes mix of "The bridal march" & Frank Sinatri crooning "It had to be you". She wowed our guests ! After a touching ceremony by our chaplin (I'm taking too much ownership......I just love this stuff) and the party recessed to Metalica.......... I know..........What an impression !

The reception was a ball. The couple danced throughout the event as the guests snapped photo after photo. FACEBOOK had to be full that morning. I shared the honor of the event with Princess Anne Photography who captured the magic of the event. Cheers to the couple & to the 4 Musketeer Bridal Party. I tell you it was a beautiful sight, and King Tee's Black & Purple tennis shoes almost topped off the event until Kristy showed off her hidden Sparkling Royal Blue "Sex in the City" High Heels. They choose the Extreme Package and special performance touches were performed by me which almost brought HEAT !!!!! Love ya'll 4 LIFE !!

Mrs. Gwen & Mr. Sandy

"My family and I were so excited to have Seko DJ another family function. Thanks again. We had a wonderful time. We look forward to working with you again!" - Tina H Seymour

This was a homecoming of sorts. I can't remember when I performed the first of the Hockaday family events. It had to be in the late 1990s, maybe around 1994. After doing one family event I believe I performed three other weddings and have done at least six others from guests who attended one of the original four events. I must admit this event proceeded with great difficulty although I'm not sure if anyone truly knew about it. I arrived at the site an hour and a half prior to the event, a little later than I normally do although I'm contracted to arrive 45 minutes prior. I needed every moment of that time as I ran into about 10 former clients that were not connected to this event who stopped me from completing set-up as quickly as I wanted to. I completed set-up/dress up 10 minutes prior to the events starting time a bit bothered as I brought along a light show as a gratis-contract upgrade but was unable to set-up the lights because of very close quarters. I then noticed another D.J. walking his equipment into the hallway......... 45 minutes later as he turned on his equipment I noticed a slight dimming of the room and a slight dim on my equipment's console that disappeared as quickly as it occurred. 10 minutes passed and I thought nothing of it until realizing that the music that I was playing on my Cortex media mixer had come to an abrupt end. Scanning the equipment I realized that something was really wrong.....I quickly began playing a c.d. on the c.d. mixer........ The sound became a bit distorted although looking around the room all of the guests were seemingly enjoying the R&B-Jazz playing with some guests softly singing along to the tracks. I turned off the amp' switching to the back-up amp' and hear the same mild distortion. I bypassed the mixer and heard the same mild distortion. Noting that it was time for an announcement I opened my microphone expecting the worse and the microphone sound was crystal clear as I announced that the guests of honor would be arriving soon, but the c.d. stopped playing as soon as I began talking. When I stopped the c.d. mixer flashed and restarted the track. I realized that the c.d. player must be affected so I ran outside gathering my back-up system when I noticed that the guests of honor had arrived. I moved the back-up system into the room and walked outside to arrange the guests of honor. After arranging them I started their music and opened the mic again...... "Friends and Family !" I exclaimed and realized the c.d. player stoped playing and began flashing... Continuing with the announcements and introductions each guest of honor received about five seconds of music before the music magically stopped. I filled in where the music left off with motivational statements and salutations about the guests filling the void when it hit me...... Something or someone has affected the facility's power. Following the intros' and prayer I knew what had to be done. Switching to my back-up computer engaged the music back to crystal clear sound. I adjusted the power input on the Cortex and shut-off my c.d. mixer. Complaining to the facility's staff was to no avail until a staff member who had been there for years prior to the remodeling saw me and greeted me. I shared with him the problem and he noted "Ain't nothing gonna' change. They have four warmers plugged into the wall sucking all of the power. The other D.J. isn't helping matters, I'm not sure what to tell you." All of the while I knew I had to rock the crowd in a modified manner tonight..... And rock we did ! My mature crowd came to celebrate the couple's 50 years with a party vengeance ! We kept it Old-School most of the night and only really were able to "Go Current" towards the last 45 minutes of the party that went 35 minutes over. At that time the Mature crowd kinda' said 'Let the young folks have the dance floor now, we did our damage!!!" It was great celebrating with the Hockadays ! See yall' at 4th of July !

Hey Seko,
I just wanted to say THANK YOU for doing such a bang up job on Saturday, you are truly a professional at what you do. Aside from Felix, you were the man of my day, honestly, it was as if you read my mind.

I know I had a lot of requests up until the last minute...which I hope didn't bother you but seriously THANK YOU, you came through with each crazy expectation! I'll be creating events just to have Positive Vibes (you) out again.

I gave your name and number out to alot of guests so I hope you all will receive some business from us, you received nothing but kudos from every guest as they left and/or called me the next morning.

I can't say THANK YOU enough times, I'll talk to you soon.

Nicole and Astley

"Seko was absolutely wonderful. We would recommend him one thousand times over! Seko was wonderful at assisting us in our wedding. We had no idea how much we did not know when it came to the reception planning and he was such a big help right down finding us a ring bearers pillow 10 minutes before the ceremony because I forgot to get one." -

Welcome to Jam-Rock !
Nicole and Astley shared a love for each other, shared a love for family, and shared a Jamaican heritage allowing me to get my "Yankee-Boy gone wicked pon tha' jam" swagger on ! Their friends and family came from far and farther to celebrate this couples love on Valentines day 2009. Friends from Iraq, Jamaica, New York, New Jersey, and Panama tried their best to out-party the few-but-funky Virginians in the room.
Our services began with providing sound and music for the ceremony. Nicole and Astley decided upon a warm splash of romantic jazz to set the mood for their nuptials. Astley walked in the room as we played Kem's "I Can't stop Loving You." The wedding party entered the room to an extended version of Musiq Soulchild's performance of "Love". After a short moment of silence in recognition of Astley's and Nicole's mothers whose presence was felt as if they were smiling ear-to-ear from heaven, Nicole and here Papa graced into the room as Patti (LaBelle) bellowed out "I Love you, I Love you." from her classic tear-jerker "Want and need you baby". Never mind the song.......... Nicole brought tears to every one's eyes.
The officiant, the bride, and the groom were all heard as we mic'ed the ceremony ensuring that the 80+ guests would hear the vows. The couple recessed to Kirk Frankiln's "Declaration" declaring the couple one.
The reception showcased the couples Island heritage as I played Smooth-yet-Jazzy Caribbean tunes and upbeat Jazzy R&B tunes while the guests snacked on gourmet Beef Patties and other Island favorites. The couple's extended first dance began with Luther Vandross' captivating voice and ended with all of the married guests encircling the couple with their love and a "Happy Valentine's Day" kiss ! Smooches Yall !!!
The party was one and the guests ate, danced, and sang-along with the mix of Caribbean, Old-School, R&B, Classic Soul, and a brief splash of Hip-Hop tunes. The event was due to end at 9:00 PM.........Right............We came to party and celebrate what the Almighty has brought together. Bless Up & Respect to the couple.
Love yall'.

Dache's Super 16th

02/23/2009
"Good Evening Seko,

On behalf of the Tolbert family, we would like to thank you for helping us give our son the best birthday party ever. It was the talk of town. Everyone enjoyed themselves and most of all the birthday boy. We wanted to personally thank you but you had already left. We thought you were going to come back in after you loaded up your equipment. Everything was beautiful from the lights to the music not that I expected anything else. Keep up the good work and we will definitely use your services again. You may use me as a reference if you ever need one.
Thank You So Much,
Tann & Kenn Tolbert"

Jalessa & David

"I'm still receiving phone calls of how EVERYONE young, middle and young at heart enjoyed DJ Seko. Family member's that weren't going to come to the wedding came at the last minute and are still talking about how AWESOME you were. Yet, again you went beyond my expectations. I thank God for you and look forward to using your services again." - Minister L. Rivers

Four years ago Jalessa was having her Sweet 16 party. D.J. Danny Rodriguez (former superstar Jock of Positive Vibes DJs) was scheduled to be her D.J. until he had a family event that demanded his immediate attention. I was the back-up staff on that day so I ended up performing at her event. We had an absolute ball ! Jalessa's mother, Minister Rivers, was a bit skeptical at first since Danny had developed such a strong reputation for fun events. She walked away a fan that night telling me "When we get this girl married we will give you a call." We have been in contact a few times since then as Minister Rivers has referred our services to a number of people. Then a few months ago Minister Rivers called our office and said "Guess who is getting married ?"

We met at her job, signed the contract and then began exchanging the necessary information. David's family was of Jamaican descent......"Do you have some good Caribbean tunes ?"...No problems, no worries !

The guests included the couples young friends, the parent's older friends and family, and the parent's conservative church family. After it was all said and done, we all danced, we all partied, and we all prayed and wished for the very best for the young couple !

Jalessa was a beautiful bride ! David is a lucky dude. I feel honored to be a part of their extended family. May the years find you more committed, more settled, and more in love.

Fab-O 50 !

Toxie was lookin' Foxie !

I had the chance to party with Toxie B. on her 50th Celebration in Surprising Suffolk and the surprise was on me. I had never expected her "mature" crowd to loose thier maturity in such a fun way. Let it be known, the grown and sexy get growner and sexier with the growing years. Toxie and her hubby had a ball with such great friends and family. Seko showed up towards the very end of the event jealous that he wasn't able to be the party starter for this jam. Seko had done a number of events for Toxie and was the D.J. at her 40th birthday a decade ago. Needless to say that "Seko walked in the door and walked on the floor" and began leading some of the line dances that I had playing (after he took a quick video of the blond who was leading the dances initially). Toxie was fine, her friends were fine, and we had a fine time - We had a ball and Toxie couldn't stop smiling. Happy Birthday Toxie - We Love Ya' Girl !!!!

Fourty and Fly

This post is a little self serving. I became 40 years old today (12/19/2008) so I had a photo session with one of my favorite photographers, Nadere of Nadere Photography.

My family has a tradition of taking photos on each one of our birthdays. The wifey and I began this tradition with our children. When the wifey became 40 she had a photo' shoot, so I followed suite. Here is my favorite photo'.

Otika and Moscoe

"Seko,We loved the work that you did for the wedding. People are talking about all of the video work that was done and I told them that it was all the DJ's work. Of course they were shocked, because no other DJ does work of that caliber. They also loved the music selection for the dancing. My parents and in laws loved everything. Grandma got up and danced and they say she never dances. Thanks for everything that was done."
- Moscoe B. Gardner

She was tall. He was taller. I felt like a dwarf standing next to them. Their day was bigger than the three of us combined. This was truly a family celebration. The family came from far and near and joy filled the room. I provided the Total package taking care of their ceremony and the reception, adding special touches along the way.

The event was held in Queen Street North in Hampton Virginia. This facility is owned by Queen Street Baptist Church and is truly state of the art and in a state of beauty. The ceremony began with a special mix of Jazzy Gospel reflecting the grooms deep religious core. Kenny G's version of "Wind beneath my Wings" highlighted the emotions as the parents and grandparents were ushered into the room. The song was extended to easily allow for the seating, candle-lighting, and recognition of the couples very important guests. I created a special version of "Never" by Jaheim beginning with an accapella and slowly building into the full version. This version beckoned our groom, best man, and the officiator into the ceremony. I heard someone say to her next-seat-neighbor "That's my song !" as Moscoe entered. The wedding singer, seated next to me, laughed saying "That's the perfect song for him." The wedding party entered to an extended version of "Ready for love" by India.Arie. Then it was Otika's time.

Otikia entered on a customized entrance I created adding splashes of Stevie Wonder, a classical rendition of "Here and Now" (made popular by Luther Vandross), a string-quartet performance of the traditional bridal march, and the warmth and love of the bride herself. The crowd was touched the bride's prelude and many women began crying before Otika even entered the room. Moscoe stood tall, strong, and emotionally touched as his soon-to-be-wifey entered the room escorted by her parents. It was on ! The ceremony continued with a great wedding singer, a lovely interactive praise dance, a perfect officiator, a gorgeous broom which the couple jumped highlighted by an African-drumming recording, and lastly the recessional....... We created a mix of the traditional recessional music and "Make me better" by Fabolous and Ne-Yo although I removed Fabolous from this edit. The wedding party partied their way out of the room and I played "The prayer" as the parents and other special guests sauntered out of the room.

A high powered entrance brought the room to high excitement as the wedding party and later the couple graced the ballroom. We brought the couple into the room from a different entrance than the wedding party, throwing even more excitement into the hearts of the guests as they turned around to see that the couple of honor had snuck into their party. Gotta' keep them guessing !

The meal was highlighted by our "Love Movie" full of jokes, interviews, music photos, and video. I shared with the couple how I've wanted to create a movie that will encompass most of the meal time to provide an extra level of excitement. Moscoe wanted to give his guests something more, this was a good match from the beginning.

The party was on ! After conducting the toast, cake, garter and bouquet, we threw down. The couple invited a great amount of mature adults so I knew we could take it to the old-old school ! We also line danced and blues-danced (check the below video) until the facility kicked us out of the ballroom. The bride was stunning, the groom was delighted, and the event was a success. May the couple and the family enjoy prosperity !

Kim & Mike Roulhac

"My husband and I were very pleased with the service we received from Positive Vibes. D.J. A.T. was excellent. He continuously checked on us throughout the night. He also got the guest to participate. He did an EXCELLENT job! I will use your services again and I will also recommend you to my friends! Thanks for a night to remember! " - Kim Mix Roulhac

Kim's event was fun. The crowd was involved in every aspect of the celebration. As I introduced the bride & groom, I had one side of the room say the bride's name and the other side said the grooms name then everyone said the newlyweds last name together ! Can you say PANDEMONIUM ? It was crazy !

The tour of the tables was unforgettable, without revealing too much I'll just say the couple of honor will never forget what their guests did. I opened the floor with a ring dance. The remainder of the night was women coming out of their high-heels and onto the dance floor with whomever they could grab.

I think the only thing bad thing that happened, was with one of the bridesmaids who......hmmmm.......Ah.... The Party must go on !

Richard & Leasa

"Leasa and Richard were married in the garden at Founders Inn. Their wedding reception followed in the ballroom. It was a beautiful event! D.J. Seko from Positive Vibes kept the guests dancing and the energy high! The couple decided to skip their exit and partied until the very end - and a little over !" - Isha Foss, Isha Foss Events

Richard and Leasa were a dream to work with. He wanted to have a lot of fun, she wanted to bridge a possible gap between her American raised family and his Jamaican raised family. Leasa asked "How are you going to keep the Americans involved, his family will party to everything." I guaranteed the couple that all involved will have a ball. Fast forward to the event........We actually had a number of balls. The 'storybook' introductions were a ball. The first dance was a ball. The open dance-floor was a ball. The West-Indians had a ball, the Americans had a ball. We couldn't get Leasa's mother off the floor. The A.K.A.'s partied hard and had a ball with their soror. Most importantly, Richard & Leasa had a ball ! (Watch the below video !)

Herman & Joy

"September 28th, I had the opportunity to photograph the wedding of Joy and Herman at the Botanical Gardens in Norfolk. The African themed wedding went off without a hitch, thanks to wedding coordinator Isha Foss and her assistant. Flowers were designed impeccably by Daevid’s Florist, while music & entertainment was performed by D.J. Seko of Positive Vibes.
The highlight of the wedding was the performance by the African Dancers who danced gallantly during and after the ceremony. The performance was truly breathtaking. Joy and Herman, thanks for having me be a part of your special day. Your wedding was truly amazing in every aspect of the word." - Keith Cephus Photography

This event touched me culturally. I've done hundred's of weddings over the years and I've only performed at two other events that displayed a adoration of their African roots to this degree. In many ways this event reminded me of my wedding to my beloved Rho' eleven years ago.

The day seemed unsure of itself. It rained a little, it became very hot, then a cool breeze enveloped the Norfolk Botanical Gardens minutes prior to the beginning of the wedding. Joy and Herman added touches of traditional West-African Yoruba wedding culture onto standard Euro-Christian rituals creating a unique ceremony that kept all of the guests on the edge of their seats. Ashee !

Two jets flew over the Botanical Gardens during the event. Using our ceremony sound system prevented the jets from disturbing the nuptials, yet the jets seemed to accent the ceremony. As the officiators paused, a jet launched. As Herman kissed his Joyful bride a flock of birds flying in a "V" formation flew over the ceremony. As the couple were announced as "Mr. and Mrs. Herman & Joy Johnson" an eagle circled over the ceremony. We were all in awe as mother-nature celebrated the union with the guests. Ashee !

The reception was a blast ! They choose the Total package which allowed me to create magic. The theme for the event was "Our Song." I created a customized 'Joy & Herman' remix of Ashford & Simpson's classic hit "Solid" to introduce the couple who were then escorted into their ballroom by African dancers and drummers. The couple were then treated to celebratory dances leading into their first dance. We created an extended first dance ending with all of the guests encircling our couple. The remainder of the night was a blast as the Almighty blessed the room with the spirit of Joy. Ashee, Ashee, Ashee.

Sour 16 Party

"There are times when things go wrong, this was one of them." D.J. A.T. stated in our post event debriefing. A.T. has been used to stellar feedback (note the feedback form to the left, click the photo to enlarge the photo) and upon reading the email received from our disgruntled client he was duly bothered. After reviewing what went wrong, and what could be done to prevent these problems in the future, and how to better handle similar problems if faced again, we both signed. This is not the experience we wanted for the client, and she was heated. I was ending a trip to Puerto Rico when D. Prewitt called with her complaint. Immediately upon return a 50% refund was issued. Our procedure is to immediately return 50% of the fee, then to conduct an investigation before providing additional refunds. The client provided us with a written statement detailing her concerns and A.T. and I met. At the end of our meeting we both agreed upon a full refund. There is only one chance for excellence at an event and this time we missed our normal mark. Our client has shared a desire towards pursuing legal action and shared plans to purchase advertisements to promote the debacle. A.T. ended the meeting with sharing all the things that went right. The teens danced and partied hard, and he played a majority of the requested songs. However, when something goes wrong, all the right things don't matter. We stand behind our services. She received all of her money back.

Carolyn & Herbert

Old school cool. herb & Car celebrated 25 glorious years and we took it back to 1983 ! Jam-J-J-J-Jam on it ! Last year one of our staff members performed for Carolyn's daughter, a few months ago I performed for this daughter's friend Tawana. Carolyn was at both events and wanted something nice for her 25th. As we talked and planned we found ways to involve her guests into the celebration, and found ways to make her event distinct. Meeting with she and Herbert (herb always spells 'herb' with a small 'h'.) was great and we added an interview to thier "Full Movie". Description of thier justice-of-the-peace wedding were timeless. As the "Full Movie" played the guests laughed and cheered and their antics. On the dance floor we threw down ! Herbert chose "Magic Man" for the first dance and the entire room sang along with the quiet-storm classic. We decided to do an 'Extended First Dance' and all of the couples in the room danced and sang with our couple of honor ! Shouts out to Mr. and Mrs. Shannon & Sheronda who were still reveling in the glow of love from celebrating their first anniversary. From the entrance to the exit we got crunk for the couple. Carolyn simply blushed as one of the tables I coached serenaded the couple during the tour of the tables. Herbert is a true Jazz lover and he and I traded sounds as I segued from my Hip-Hop Jazz collection to his smoothed-out-and-funky smooth jazz. Playing music starting in 1983 was great for the dance floor and we even stepped back a little further in time as the crowd rapped along to Rappers Delight by the SugarHill Gang (Circa 1979)........."Hotel, Motel, Holiday Inn !"..... I'm sure you know the rest. This night was Tha' Bomb ! Thanks for allowing me to blow it up !
